Amanbagh

5 stars, Confidential, Contemporary, Historic, Palace, Traditional, Luxury, Mountain, Luxuriant nature, Countryside, Cultural activities, Bar, Wellness, Wedding & Honeymoon, Gastronomy, Getaway, Gardens, Swimming pool, Restaurant, Spa, Zen

The Amanbagh hotel, in the shadow of the Aravalli Mountains, is located at a distance from the hustle and bustle of the Rajput capital city of Rajasthan. This former maharajah’s residence, converted into a luxury hotel in 2005, still contains the sovereign’s private rooms. The 40 suites, opening onto a colorful garden, pay tribute to the attention to detail of Moghol architects. The marble interiors contain superb wall frescoes, casting a veil of elegance over this former palace. The Amanbagh, which means “peaceful garden”, honors the 17th century Indo-Moslem floral tradition, and represents the earthly incarnation of the ancient Persian paradise. The Amanbagh is an ideal stop for appreciating the splendor of the landscape of this “country of kings”, and a truly worthy member of the prestigious Amanresorts hotel group.

Jaipur

At the foot of the Aravalli mountain chain, Jaipur, also known as the “pink city” dominates the immense Rajpoute territory. Located 260 kilometers from New Delhi, the capital of Rajasthan, literally, the land of kings, along with Delhi and Agra, belongs to a trio of cities, whose cultural and architectural wealth bear witness to the grandeur of this mysterious civilization which so fascinated French writer André Malraux. Built during the reign of the sovereign Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727, the checkerboard configuration of Jaipur is based on the precepts of the Vastu Vidya, an architectural treatise dating back to the Vedic era. The totally pink old city contains centuries old monuments whose ocher silhouettes dominate the entire length of the city. The sumptuous Hawa Mahal or Palace of the Winds, a residence destined to receive women of the zenana, the Hindu equivalent of a harem, seems to literally absorb the first rays of the sun at dawn.

A pleasure pavilion in the heart of an oasis

The village of Ajabgarh, at the foot of Mount Aravalli is only about 60 kilometers from Jaiur. Today, this former hunting ground of the Maharajah of Alwar, still contains the sovereign’s private residence, converted in 2005 into a luxury hotel with 40 pink marble suites, makrana, the white marble used for the construction of the Taj Mahal, wall frescoes, deep red Herati rugs, magnificent miniatures, architectural reproductions and Moghol decorations. The hotel Amanbagh - literally, “peaceful garden”, is located in the middle of a garden in which frangipanis, hibiscus and fruit trees emit their fragrant aromas, paying tribute to the 17th century Indo-Muslim floral tradition. The garden, a place of pleasure and delight, is considered to be the earthly incarnation of the ancient Persian paradise in which water, the source of life, occupies a central place. Amanbagh is the ideal spot for contemplating the magnificence of this land of kings and to discover the ancestral art de vivre of its princes.

Taking its name from the Sanskrit translation of the word, “peace”, the “aman” resort possesses a truly peaceful atmosphere, traditionally decorated in accordance with local culture and with great attention to the quality of service.” – Premium Traveler magazine
