The Maison Souvannaphoum charm hotel in the center of the Laotian city of Luang Prabang opens onto the hustle and bustle of the historic quarter of this former capital of the kingdom. Once a colonial residence, it is now a daringly modern luxury hotel, plunging guests into a universe of serenity. The 24 elegant, spacious and refined rooms with exotic wood parquet floors cast a veil of sophistication over this royal residence, which once received Prince Souvannaphoum. The brightly colored walls are decorated in a contemporary manner, blending a variety of styles and recalling the delicately retro era of French Indochina. From the tables of the Elephant Blanc restaurant to the salons of the Angsana Spa, this intimate and comfortable hotel celebrates the curative and culinary virtues of Laotian culture.

Luang Prabang

Laos, which borders China, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand, has for several years, benefitted from the increased interest in this region of the world, and has enjoyed a boom in its tourist industry.

In the north of the country, the city of Luang Prabang, classified a UNESCO world heritage in 1995, is one of the Laos’ most beautiful sites. As the ancient capital of the kingdom in the 14th century, it had a certain influence on the country. Today, this Asian pearl contains treasures which bear witness to its history and which are well worth discovering. The city is especially known for having some of the most beautiful temples in Laos, and the large monastic population assures western visitors of a total change of scene. A must for Luang Prabang visitors is the Vat Xieng Thong monastery. Built in the 16th century by King Setthatjirat, it is one of the city’s most magnificent temples and a symbol of Laotian Buddhism. Its gilded wooden façade has earned it the nickname of “city of gold.” Those interested in learning more about the history of the city will find all the information they need in the Royal Palace museum, where they can marvel at the sumptuous golden Buddha, almost a meter high.

A princely hotel

Located in the heart of the historical city of Luang Prabang, the Maison Souvannaphoum is an intelligent blend of the traditional and the modern. The staff of the hotel, dedicated to making your stay perfect, without the slightest hitch, welcomes you into an all white former colonial home, which once received members of Laos’ royal family.

Twenty-four rooms are available to guests, all decorated with refinement, associating the colonial style, including parquet floors in exotic wood and wicker armchairs, with certain more contemporary and pure decorative elements. The Garden wing rooms face the hotel’s lush vegetation and the outdoor pool which is even lovelier at night when it’s illuminated. The Residence wing rooms are more spacious and steeped in history. The Chambre Maison (House Room), undoubtedly the most beautiful in the hotel, once received Prince Souvannaphoum, the country’s former prime minister, and the Champa and Laos rooms were reserved for queens and princesses.

The Elephant Blanc restaurant proposes French, Laotian and Indo-Chinese food, prepared to delight even the most demanding palates. The Angsana Spa is there to care for your well-being, thanks to treatments using local essences and a variety of different type massages.
