Rome

A key city of the ancient world, Rome is internationally renowned. Every year, several million foreign visitors come here to admire the city that dominated the Mediterranean region for almost a thousand years. Vestiges of the ancient, Renaissance and Baroque eras fill the city. The Coliseum, the Pantheon, Saint-Peter’s basilica, the San Angelo castle and the Trevi fountain are but a few reminders of Rome’s tumultuous history. With its 400 churches, 300 fountains and innumerable palaces, timeless and eternal Rome is a hyphen between the past and the present. And present day Rome is far from a museum. It’s a vibrant, exciting city as witnessed by the incessant ballet of cars and scooters going up and down the noisy and animated Corso in the early evening, and the huge number of cafés along its immense piazzas. One can walk from the Campo di Fiori, with its Villa Borghese to the Vatican, from Trastevere to the Coliseum, from the Spanish Steps to the Capitolino or from the Villa Medicis to the baths of Caracalla without ever tiring of this city embellished by artists of all kinds, and without ever getting lost since, as the saying goes, “All roads lead to Rome”.

Divine Comedy

Designed by the New York architect, Adam Tihany, the Aleph Hotel is located in an old palace which was once a bank. Inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy, Adam Tihany has reinterpreted the Inferno and Paradise throughout the hotel.

Ironically, Paradise is down below, where the vaults were once located…behind a steel security door. It’s the spa, covered in blue, with all the well being and luxury one would expect of Paradise.

Hell is located on the top with electric red and black colors, padded and guarded by a samurai. The salons and the restaurant are here, representing the sinful temptations of eating and lazing around.

In the blue and ivory colored rooms, we find a clever blend of 1930s and 1940s Italian design. There are immense black and white photographs on the walls illustrating scenes of life in Rome. Precious and surprising details like the Murano Liberty glasses add an unconventional touch to this austere elegance. In the angelic beige presidential suites, there’s a private Jacuzzi on the terrace, offering guests a moment of pure relaxation directly under the canopy of heaven.

After a busy day in the Eternal City, it’s time to descend into Paradise to enjoy the sauna and the two small swimming pools, before surrendering to temptation and heading for the Inferno and the Sin Restaurant to discover the unique sensations of the Boscolo food Experience, a veritable tribute to Italian cuisine.

In 2003, Adam Tihany received the prize for the best hotel interior in Europe at the Hotel Design Awards ceremony, for the Aleph hotel.
