Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo

5 stars, Classic, Cozy, Glamorous, Jet set, Palace, Luxury, City, Business, Bar, Gastronomy, Gardens, Shopping, Spa

The Metropole opened in 1889 on a property once owned by Pope Leo XIII. Built in the Belle Epoque style, the hotel quickly became a favorite vacation site for the international elite attracted by its charm and discreet luxury. It has experienced different eras without losing its aura, although it closed for a year in 2003. It reopened in 2004 with a new aristocratically modern identity, created by the famous decorator, Jacques Garcia. It now proudly displays its youthful, almost insolent presence. Although Garcia highlighted the Metropole’s illustrious past and its Mediterranean freshness, he succeeded in breathing new life into this legendary Côte d’Azur palace. Awarded the title of Best Hotel in the World in 2010 by Leading Hotels of the World and internationally famous for the excellence of its services, the renovation included the creation of a spa with ESPA treatments and the Odyssey swimming pool designed by Karl Lagerfeld. The warm, cozy and elegant five star Metropole is a veritable journey through time. As guests discover its intimate atmosphere, it transforms itself into a private manor in the heart of one of the world’s most exclusive quarters.

The Principality of Monaco is a city-state, the second smallest after the Vatican and the world’s most densely populated country. But these statistics of course, say nothing about the attraction and the glamour surrounding Monaco. This jewel of the Côte d’Azur continues to fascinate people the world over. Princess Grace, the former American actress, Grace Kelly, is a symbol of this glamour. Her encounter with Prince Rainier and her tragic end are part of a contemporary legend; a modern fairy tale.

Monaco however, is not limited to the presence of celebrities and glitz even though a large concentration of luxury hotels, some of the world’s most magnificent yachts and boutiques bearing the names of the most famous designers and stylists are commonplace here. Monaco is also the venue for important festivals, a world famous oceanography museum and monuments which attract a host of tourists. Located next the Hotel de Paris and behind the Opera House, the Monte Carlo Casino is another international site attracting visitors from all over the world.

An aristocratic and contemporary palace

The history of the Metropole goes back to 1889. The hotel, a masterpiece of the Belle Epoque style immediately became the favorite vacation venue for European aristocracy already very attracted to the Côte d’Azur. The hotel’s reputation continued to grow until it suffered a slight decline in the 1980s. From that point on, the Metropole underwent a series of restorations until 2004, when it proudly displayed its new aristocratically modern face, the work of renowned decorator Jacques Garcia.

The path leading to the hotel begins with a wooded lane whose greenery is in contrast with the white stones of the façade. Upon entering the lobby, one is at first struck by the accent on space. The palace is both spacious and cozy. The conciergerie is located directly at the entrance, after which we find a huge lobby which you instinctively feel is more than a simple waiting area. It is in fact, a living space where guests have lunch or dinner or use as a meeting place. In short, the lobby of the Metropole is an integral part of Monaco’s social life.

The sober and chic reception area leads to the elevators. Refinement is omnipresent as guests stroll through the halls, constantly surprised by the details recalling the Metropole’s past, and its modern additions which demonstrate the hotel’s ability to adapt to the times and to the needs of an increasingly demanding clientele. The Metropole hotel chain is internationally reputed and has been awarded for its irreproachable service.

The 133 rooms and suites offer guests comfort, luxury and privacy in an ambiance carefully created by Jacques Garcia. Among the most exceptional accommodations is a suite with an uninterrupted view of the famous hairpin curve Formula One pilots have to manoeuver during this legendary annual race, and another room created by the renowned designer Philippe Starck. The Metropole is a hotel in tune with the times and full of delightful surprises!

One such surprise is the swimming pool called Odyssey designed by Karl Lagerfeld. It’s an extension of the very elegant spa where treatments and relaxation sessions are carried out in a zen like, laid back atmosphere. After bodily pleasures, it’s time for other delights at the gastronomic restaurant, Joël Robuchon, directed by Christophe Cussac. It’s one of Monaco’s culinary landmarks with two stars in the prestigious Michelin Guide. Refined and accessible Mediterranean cuisine is highlighted, with the emphasis on the quality of the product.

In 2010, the Metropole received the industry’s highest distinction as the Best Hotel in the World awarded by the Leading Hotels of the World association.
